Warm Online Therapy for Military Spouses

AVAILABLE ONLINE IN 38+ STATES, AND IN PERSON IN ALEXANDRIA, VA

Military spouse and two kids on the couch, waving to deployed parent on the laptop screen. She is smiling, but, deep down she feels the loneliness of military life.

Deployments, frequent moves, burnout, isolation…
Military life can be lonely.

As military spouses ourselves, we understand your unique challenges firsthand. We are specially trained to provide therapy for military spouses, and can help you feel validated and more in control with the instability of military life.

When you're a spouse of a service member, life can feel lonely, stressful, unpredictable, and scary.

You May Be

  • Managing the household alone and making important family decisions by yourself

  • Burnt out on parenting alone, doing everything for everyone, and feeling empty when you have nothing left for yourself

  • Understandably worried and anxious about the safety and wellbeing of your spouse and military family members

  • Juggling it all through frequent moves, without the emotional or social support, or practical day-to-day help you need

  • Confused or uncertain about your roles in the relationship

  • Concerned about the health of your marriage (i.e. communication, betrayal, connection)

  • Overwhelmed with caring for the mental health of your child, as they process fear and anxiety about your partner, or act out after feeling uprooted and missing their friends

  • Experiencing difficult and conflicting emotions after your spouse comes home, and roles and family dynamics have changed

Young couple in a military marriage cuddling on the couch. Male military spouse holds female partner in uniform. They are both smiling, it’s unclear if the smiles are genuine.

It's not just you—military marriages and family dynamics are challenging and complex.

And it can be hard to find a therapist who both understands military life and specializes in providing military spouse counseling.

That's why we created specialized support for military spouses—so you can process your feelings with someone who actually understands, no matter what challenges military life brings.

We will

  • Hold space for the loneliness, loss of emotional support, the stress of the mental load

  • Discuss how to shift your parenting roles

  • Address concerns about the safety and well-being of your military family members

  • Guide you in developing tools to cope with military life

How we’re different

We're a multi-state, mental health therapy group specializing in therapy for military spouses and their family members.

Unlike other therapists, we understand military life because we've been there ourselves.

In addition, most therapists are only licensed in one state—but we are licensed in 38+ states and can continue to work with you and your family at your next duty station.

Our goal is not only to provide warm, competent counseling that understands your unique challenges—but also to make sure that your transitions are easier and less stressful. The last thing we want you to worry about is having to start over with another therapist all over again in 1, 2, or 4 years.

Meet the Team

Military spouse is sitting on the floor of a messy but well-lit living room. She's on the computer seeking a therapist, while her child plays on the chair behind her.

therapy for military spouses IS OUR specialty

You're in the right place if you're looking for a therapist you can relate to, who understands the unique stressors of military life.

Think of our counselors as your milspouse friend with a PhD who's an amazing listener.

You can process and talk through your toughest issues and feelings. We understand the challenges of deployment and homecoming, and how prolonged absences can affect the family structure. We know what it's like to make all the household and family decisions by yourself.

One big difference, though: we’re professionally trained to help you feel better.

Some of the most common mental health issues or experiences our military spouse clients experience include:

Anxiety (panic attacks, OCD, perfectionism)

Depression and Mood Disorders

Trauma

PTSD

Relationship issues

ADHD

Suicidal thought patterns

Parenting

Family conflict

Women’s Issues (Hormonal Imbalances, Chronic Illness, Menopause, Mom Rage)

Life Transitions

Our mental health care services can support any issue that military spouses and military families face.

A military spouse happily hugs her military service member partner in uniform during homecoming. Behind her is the American flag and their home.

No matter what you're experiencing, we can identify it, manage it, and help you prevent it in the future.

Our trained therapists will conduct psychological tests, make an assessment, and help you manage mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and more.

In addition to individual therapy for military spouses, we also offer military couples counseling and therapy for military families.

FAQs

  • That is a possibility, but our therapists at Reintjes Counseling are not trying to “fix” your issue. We want you to feel understood, validated and help motivate you in whatever direction you need while managing it all. Don’t forget that we are military-connected counselors ourselves.

  • You should expect a casual conversation about the things happening in your life. There is no pressure to disclose anything you don’t want to. We are compassionate humans that are authentically interested in helping you feel better. Most people feel much more at ease after a consultation.

  • Usually when discussing what’s happening with our family we experience bias from those around us.

We want to help you and we don’t know anyone else in your circle, which makes it freeing to discuss everything and anything you want—knowing it won’t get back to anyone else.

  • No. But mental health support can improve your well-being and the functioning of your entire family.

  • Child abuse, harm to self or others, active suicidality, and elderly abuse.

  • If after reading our clinician biographies you are leaning towards a specific clinician – please mention your preference when you fill out your contact form.

You don’t have to experience being a military spouse alone.

Military spouses and families are strong because that’s just who we are, but asking for support from a mental health professional is sometimes necessary to reduce or prevent burnout, and get the support you need.

We’re here to support you when you’re ready.
